Animal artist Vicky Mycock was born on the 25th July 1980 in Derbyshire, she spent her childhood in a small village “Peak Dale” surrounded by animals and nature she would spend nearly every waking hour outside, and from that early age her love of animals began.
She began School and soon started spending time drawing and painting encourage by her family and her Head teacher Vicky’s Primary School logo took second place in a contest to represent the school.
Vicky didn’t find Secondary School so smooth her art teacher discouraged her pursuit of the arts, claiming she couldn’t draw and shouldn’t take GCSE art, because of this her art became a hobby pushed to one side, Vicky studied to become an Engineer and received a Merit on her GNVQ courses, then becoming a Retail supervisor receiving a Merit in Retail operations, and eventually became a Blue belt in Kickboxing and an Instructor of Martial arts.
But she was never more happy than when she had a paintbrush or pencil in her hand (Or indeed behind her ear), it was her daily breath of fresh air, a place to escape, a place to really be herself.
So 8 Years ago encouraged once again by family and friends, and inspired by her new born Son, she dusted herself off and decided that she was going to pursue her art once more and prove her art Teacher wrong, and since that point her art has gone from strength to strength.
Vicky now resides in Buxton, Derbyshire it is a Beautiful and tranquil place, which supplies her with endless wildlife to draw, She shares her home with her wonderful Husband, her amazing Son, 1 cat, and 2 dogs.
Even if I could go back in time and take art as a GCSE I wouldn’t, not being hemmed in with the way things should be ensures my artwork comes from my heart and not my head. This is the only way I can show the love and admiration I have for the animal Kingdom, and in turn allow the viewer to feel this magic.
